LAW 697 GIVES 2001 (October 3) Official Diary No. 44.573, of October 05, 2001 

1st ARTICLE. One declare the Rational and Efficient Use of the Energy (URE) as a matter of social, public interest and of national, fundamental convenience to assure the energetic full and opportune supply, the competitiveness of the Colombian economy, the protection to the consumer and the promotion of the use of not conventional energies of a sustainable way with the environment and the natural resources.

2nd ARTICLE. The State must establish the procedure and necessary infrastructure for the complete fulfillment of the present law, creating the legal, technical, economic structure and necessary financier to achieve the development of concrete projects, URE, to short, medium and long term, economic and environmentally viable assuring the sustainable development, at the time that they should generate the conscience URE and the knowledge and utilization of alternative forms of energy

3rd ARTICLE. DEFINITIONS. For effects of interpreting and applying the present law he understands himself for 

1. URE: It is the ideal utilization of the energy in each and every of the energetic chains, from the selection of the energetic source, his production, transformation, transport, distribution.

 2. Efficient use of the energy: It is the utilization of the energy, in such a way that the major energy efficiency is obtained, good is of an original form of energy and / or during any activity of production, transformation, transport, distribution and consumption of the different forms of energy.


3. Energetic source: Any physical element of which we can obtain energy, in order to take advantage of it. They divide in energetic conventional and not conventional sources.
